Rainbet provably fair: how to verify a result
Rainbet provably fair games let you prove that a result wasn't changed after you bet. The system applies to the Rainbet Originals and uses three values: a client seed, a server seed and a nonce.
What does Rainbet provably fair mean?
Rainbet provably fair means the result of a round is fixed before you place the bet, and you can confirm it afterwards with your own check. You don't have to trust Rainbet's word or a lab's report. The maths either matches or it doesn't.
What are the three values?
| Value | Who controls it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Client seed | You. It can be edited at any time | Adds your own input to every result |
| Server seed | Rainbet. You see it hashed before you bet | Rainbet's input, locked in advance |
| Nonce | A counter. It starts at 0 and rises by one per bet | Makes each bet's result different |
The three values together produce one result. The same three values always produce the same result, which is what makes checking possible.
Why is the server seed hashed?
A hash is a one-way fingerprint. Rainbet shows you the fingerprint of its server seed before you bet. You can't work the seed out from it, so you can't predict results. Rainbet can't swap the seed later either, because a different seed would give a different fingerprint.
When you rotate your seeds, the old server seed is revealed in full. If its hash matches what you were shown at the start, the seed was never changed.
How do you verify a bet?
Rainbet sets out six steps, and they work the same way on every Original.
- Open the Fair Play tab on the game. It shows your active seeds, with the server seed in hashed form.
- Place a bet as normal.
- Rotate the seed pair. That reveals the unhashed server seed used for your earlier bets.
- Go to Bets and click the ID of the bet you want to check.
- Click the Provably Fair link on that bet to see the values behind it.
- Confirm the result in the Verify tab, or run the game's published algorithm yourself.
You can only verify bets made with a seed pair you've already rotated. The active server seed stays hashed while it's in use, so that upcoming results can't be worked out.
What do the terms mean?
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Seed pair | Your client seed and Rainbet's server seed together |
| Hash | A one-way fingerprint of the server seed |
| Rotate | Swap to a new seed pair, which reveals the old server seed |
| Bet ID | The reference for one bet in your Bets list |
| Fair Play tab | The panel on each Original that shows your seeds |
Which games are provably fair?
All fifteen Rainbet Originals are provably fair, and each game page has a Fair Play tab. That covers Plinko, Mines, Dice, Limbo, Keno, Hilo, Chicken Cross, Coinflip and the rest of the set on Rainbet Originals.
Rainbet's homepage also names Case Battles and EOS Roulette as multiplayer games. Neither is in the sidebar list of fifteen. According to Rainbet, those take their randomness from EOS blockchain blocks instead of a seed pair.
Which games aren't provably fair?
Slots, live tables and software table games aren't provably fair. They come from outside studios. Rainbet says those providers run certified random number generators and live operations audited by independent labs. Rainbet slots and Rainbet live casino explain how those sections work.
| Game type | How fairness is shown |
|---|---|
| Rainbet Originals | Seeds and nonce that you can verify |
| Case Battles and EOS Roulette | EOS block data, according to Rainbet |
| Slots and software tables | The provider's certified RNG |
| Live tables | Physical cards and wheels in audited studios |
Does changing your client seed help you win?
No. A new client seed gives a different set of results, not a better one. Its purpose is proof. Since you can set it yourself, Rainbet can't have picked both seeds to suit itself.
What doesn't provably fair tell you?
Provably fair shows that a result was generated honestly. It doesn't remove the house edge. Each Original still pays back less than is staked over time, at the RTP shown on its page. A fair game can still cost you money.
Try the check once
The easiest way to understand the system is to follow the six steps once on a small bet. Rainbet Dice is a simple game to read, since each bet has a single number. For the wider picture of what's on record about the operator, see is Rainbet legit.
